There are some good places to eat in Cheltenham, but some of the best places (Ajo, Svea, The Grille) have permanently shut their doors, leaving us with a ton of mediocre and disappointing places. This list is brief because I don't want to give insincere recommendations. I frequent these places because I do enjoy what they serve.
Well Walk Tea Room : The afternoon tea at this family-owned-restaurant-cum-antique-shop features wholesome ingredients, large portions, and gluten-free alternatives.

Boston Tea Party : It's a chain, so you'll find BTPs all over the UK, but they commit to using locally-sourced ingredients in their food. Their brunch menu (served all day) is solid, and I can count on BTP for a fulling but still healthy-ish lunch, like their Lamb Kofta Pitta. Also, I don't like brownies, but BTPs is the best I've ever tasted.

Carluccio's : Out of all the Italian chains in the UK, this is the most authentic and the most consistent. It's no surprise why it's not popular with the Brits, but is with Italian expatriates! My favorite dish here is the Beef Brasato; heavenly marrow drippings flavor the polenta! If I'm stopping by on a coffee break, I order the Bicerin.

Kashmir : Dishes from various regions of India. Authenticity and flavor are never compromised to satisfy the meek-of-palate; if your tastebuds are shy, they will invent something for you that nevertheless conforms to their high standards.

Thai Family : The best Thai food in town, in an intimate setting. My favorite place to have lunch.

BREAKFAST
Dominique Ansel : Don't be put off by the prices of the viennoiseries; they're huge, so you're actually getting your money's worth! A good balance of sweet and savory pastries on the menu, every bite smacks of quality. I'm looking forward to trying their afternoon tea; service starts sometime later in 2017.

Imperial China : The best dim-sum I've tasted (so far) in London. Go early, go often. If you miss dim-sum time and arrive after 5pm, the dim-sum options are fewer; I highly recommend the Vegetarian Dim-Sum Platter (pictured). The main menu is mediocre, their forte really is dim-sum.

JAPANESE FOOD (INCLUDING SUSHI)
Dozo Sushi : Upscale Japanese food. The sushi is compact and fresh; the small plates are minimal chic.
32 Old Compton Street

Sushi Eatery (no website) : All-you-can-eat, but within two hours. The food is satisfying, but you have to play by their rules, and there are a lot of rules. Proceed at your own risk: I noticed that the servers were extremely flexible with the rules if they were serving Chinese customers; any another kind of Asian, they were gruff. However, I enjoyed the food so much that I'm willing to overlook this and would go again.

SPANISH FOOD
Jamon Jamon : There are four locations in London, but I stumbled into the one near Chinatown (of course). The tapas were good (not excellent, but they hit the spot); the real winner is the paella. Rich and filling, there was plenty leftover to box up and take home.

Best Mangal : Casual dining and great value at any of the three family-owned restaurants. Check their website for locations.
